The spring tension on the slide topper can be adjusted but you must do it carefully because there is considerable energy in the stored spring if it were to get away from you.
Now that you are going to re tension the spring it s time to insert it back after you have reinstalled the torsion assembly.
Give yourself some room.
Depending on the make and model there is a different method to adjust the tension.
Loosen the left arm pull it out just enough to clear the slide.
When you release the tension in the spring the cotter pin that is inserted in the holes in the awning arms are removed.
This should increase the tension on the awning.
Lower the awning completely.
Place the step stool near the lip.
If not turn arm one more turn.
The cotter pins are the ones that lock the spring tension securely while taking down the rv awning.
If the room is out of square the room needs to be fixed.
If it is a tension issue the best thing to do is to re torque both sides to factory specs.
With great ease turn the arm counter clock wise.
One turn may give you the desired tension.
Be very careful there is a lot of tension on the arm.
